John William Coombes

Born in Groomsport, Co. Down, Ireland in 1893. Coombes studies at St Barnabas, Belfast, at Belfast School of Art from 1907 – 1914, and at the Royal College of Art from 1915 – 1920. He worked in Belfast as a designer for the linen industry. He was awarded a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925 for the Warner & Sons design, ‘Kelty’. He taught at St Martin’s School of Art from 1927 – 1928
