An Introduction to Warner & Sons
This talk covers the origins of the company in Bethnal Green as ‘Manufacturers of [handwoven] Fine Furnishing Silks’ in the 19th century and the transfer of production to Braintree in 1895 until the closure of the business in 1990.
The adaptability of the company through economic circumstances and changing tastes from power weaving to printing is illustrated through a selection of the more than 65,000 designs held at the Warner Textile Archive.
